Govt. Dental College & Hospital, Patiala was started as a wing of Govt. Medical College Patiala in1956. It established as an independent institution in the year 1989. The Dental wing was started with a strength of 12 admissions which were subsequently raised to 20 and there after to 40 admissions for the BDS course.

The college is also imparts post-graduate courses (M.D.S.) in four specialties. It is one of the premier institutes of the country.

The college is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot and recognized by Dental Council of India. The institute is providing quality education to its students and has built up the reputation of an institute per excellence.

”Bachelor

This is a four year course with one year of compulsory rotatory internship, thus making it a five year course. Now under new regulation issued by Dental Council of India the training program leading to B.D.S. degree shall be 5 years with 240 teaching days in each academic year w.e.f. admission year 2007-08 .

A Candidate for admission to the Master of Dental Surgery (M.D.S.) 3 year degree course must have a recognized degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) awarded by an Indian University in respect of recognized Dental college u/s 1(2)of the Dentists Act,1948.
